A story every parent should read.

"I was 15 when I understood that a bad teacher can derail a child's entire future. I was that child."

When I was 15, my parents moved to a new town, far from everything I knew. New school, no friends, no familiar faces. I had always been an average student — nothing exceptional, but nothing problematic either. I had never had serious issues with any teacher.

That changed in the first week. My foreign language teacher called on me — the new student — to question me. The conversation was brief. His parting words were: "I do not like the way you look at me. I can assure you that by the end of the year, you will fail." And he meant it. He spent the rest of the year making sure of it.

Days later, the life science teacher punished me for disturbing the class. I had done nothing.

What followed was a year of homework assignments where I never scored above 3 out of 10. My parents were upset. I was lost. One day, in desperation, I convinced my father to write an essay on my behalf. He scored 4 out of 10. That day, he understood. The problem was not me. It was the teacher.

He went to the school principal. The principal acknowledged the situation was wrong — and then said that the teacher was close to retirement and they should be understood. Bear with it, they told us.

"I failed that year. I lost a year of my life. I lost respect for a system that was supposed to protect me. And I became rebellious — because no one had protected me."

After school, I found work. But I quickly realised that if I wanted to go further in life, I needed to study. So I did — while working, which is far harder than most people imagine. The motivation was simple: I refused to be defined by that year.

Over the years, I gave free lessons to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, on weekends, with no agenda other than to help. Many of them have successful careers today. That means more to me than anything on a CV.

Why I built CoachBuddy

The classroom has a problem that nobody wants to talk about. Classes are overcrowded. Teachers are overwhelmed. There is barely any personal interaction between teacher and student — and those who are struggling are simply left behind, invisible.

At the same time, I watch children spend hours every day on their phones, scrolling endlessly through short videos. Platforms like TikTok have built algorithms specifically designed to keep young people glued to the screen. They are not doing it by accident. They understand human psychology better than most educators do.

CoachBuddy is my response to both of those problems.

It is a platform that gives every student access to patient, personalised guidance — the kind that overwhelmed classroom teachers cannot provide. It explains concepts clearly, in plain language, and then uses dialogue to ensure genuine understanding. Not memorisation. Not copying. Understanding.

One of my science teachers — a researcher — once told us that learning formulae by heart was a waste of time. Our exams were open book. What he tested was whether we understood the problem in front of us and could identify the right approach. The book was there to find the formula. But without understanding, the book was useless.

That is the philosophy behind every CoachBuddy course. The coach explains. Then it asks. Then it listens. Then it asks again. Not to trick the student — but to make sure the understanding is real, not borrowed.

"Instead of being passive players scrolling through other people's content, CoachBuddy students become thinkers, creators — people who build things. And that changes everything."

We also offer subjects that most schools do not touch: entrepreneurship, coding, financial literacy. These are not extras. They are the skills that determine whether a young person will spend their life working for someone else's idea — or building their own.

CoachBuddy exists because I was failed by a system that should have protected me. I built it so that as many students as possible never have to feel what I felt at 15 — lost, unseen, and told to simply bear with it.

Our Philosophy

What we believe about learning

💡

Understanding over memorisation

A student who understands the problem can find the formula in a book. A student who only memorised the formula is lost the moment the context changes. We teach understanding.

🗣️

Explain, then question

CoachBuddy explains concepts clearly first — in plain English, with no jargon. Then it uses dialogue to check and deepen understanding, guiding the student to the answer rather than giving it.

🤔

Struggle is part of learning

The moment of difficulty before something clicks is not a sign of failure. It is where the real learning happens. We protect that moment instead of skipping it.

🎯

From passive to active

We do not just teach subjects. We change how young people see themselves — from consumers of other people's content to builders of their own ideas, tools, and futures.
